Nepotism and its Bad impacts

You are capable to do that work well but you don’t get the chance, do you know, why? Answer is simply because you are not linked with that company or organization. Other person will get the chance because they are liked with that organization. Your competence for that work will go in vein. We can say this "Nepotism" that is effected by "Aafantwad" or in local language we can say it as "Sifaris" in stead of competence. Nepotism is defined as individuals showing favoritism to the family members and friends by providing them with jobs or giving them promotions based on their relationships, not competence. In either case, it causes a lot of resentment and muttered comments among workers, particularly those who have been at the job for a long time without much vertical movement toward a better position. It is galling to see someone come in and get a job along with perks that others haven't gotten or worked for years to obtain. Nepotism exists everywhere around us. Here are some alarming facts about our country. In a country where connections matter more than your skills sets, we have accepted this as our ‘way of life’.

When employees are hired at a company because of nepotism, other employees may question whether the family members or friends have the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to perform their jobs. If employees question their abilities to do their jobs, they may show them less respect, ignore their ideas and instructions or comment to the employees that they were only hired because of their relationships with management or the business owner. Getting shown little-to-no respect can cause conflicts between employees hired because of nepotism and their co-workers. Whether you are the star kid, the college topper, Politician or a random person who have to reach to the top, the struggle is the same but some get more preference and some have to chase it for themselves. Nepotism will prevail in every field, but that should not be the case for someone to compromise on their professionalism.

Students who are more skilled are left at the back of the line, and those with connections level up easily leaving the industry more prone to faults within itself. If corruption existed in the system, it is difficult to root it out of the system with the kin of the family taking over the throne. Since one has connections, it is difficult to instruct him on the correct way and make good use of his resources, with the fear of him able to strike someone out because of personal differences. Favouritism to the person having more connections rules out the correct decisions, with people rooting for him even when he is wrong.

Dealing with Nepotism in the workplace can be tough, especially if you’re receiving the short end of the stick while someone else is gaining opportunities due to what you perceive as unfair favoritism. Nepotism, or the act of providing or receiving opportunities due to a family relationship or friendship, has a history that runs long and worldwide Nepotism can cause damage to a business, affecting employee morale, causing friction and resentment.
